There are three Cromino Granulit models which are designed for research and development, formulation development and small scale pilot plant applicatioins. The Cronimo R&D are designed to the same specifications as the cromino production granulators. The options for the production granulators are available on the R&D units as well. The machines are fully validateable and meets Free-of-Paint Design requirements. The stainless steel work is of a very high quality, which meets GMP and sanitary standards. For example the bowls are constructed of 316SS with a mirror finish inside and out with a surface roughness of Ra ≤ 0.4µ non-contact surfaces are made of brushes 304 stainless steel.

Granulator:

Here is a brief list of the features common to the Cromino Granulit high-shear mixer granulators used for R&D, formulation development and pilot plant:

  • Both mixer and chopper blades are constructed of electropolished 316 stainless steel.
  • A special three-part shaft sealing system (heavy duty seal, v-ring and pneumatic seal) prevents leakage from around the mixer and cuter drive shafts.
  • High-effect, easy-to-clean, low speed, bottom driven mixing blade. The mixing blade keeps the product in a constant swirling rotation preventing agglomeration.
  • The bottom mixer blade is directly coupled to a high performance gearbox driven by a standard three-phase motor powered by an inverter.
  • The side entry chopper-granulator motor is powered by a three phase motor, also driven by a frequency inverter.
  • Both motors utilize variable speed Siemens frequency inverters for the accurate control of the motor speeds.
  • The Watson-Marlow®peristaltic pump fits inside the housing with only the head of the pump extending outside of the cabinet. This allows for the accurate monitoring and addition of binders for each product.

Processing Bowls:

The frusto (i.e., bowls which are wider at the base than at the top) conical processing bowls are easy to clean without inaccessible areas. The bowls are constructed of AISI 316 stainless steel with a surface roughness average of Ra = 0.4µ mirror-polished inside and outside. The bowls are designed for a bottom entry mixer blade and side entry chopper. The Granulit R&D processing bowls share these characteristics:

Controls:

The granulators are equipped with guards and safety interlocks as standard and an emergency stop (E-Stop) button.

The options for controls and information range from basic manual controls, SoftLogic PLC-Based controls to the SoftLogic TTM control system, which is a PC-Based Contol system featuring Cronimo’s exclusive True Torque Measurement technology. This is a completely automated, recipe-based, CFR compliant touchscreen computer controlled system, with torque end-point detection via use of a load cell/moment arm on the mixer shaft.
